USPopulations.com publishes population data. It has no user accounts, no sign-up or contact forms, and no advertising. The only information collected about visits is described below.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, which sites or searches led to a visit, and the approximate location (city level), device, browser and language of visitors. Google uses your IP address to estimate that location; according to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We use this information only to understand and improve the site. We do not use it for advertising, our setup turns off Google signals and ad personalization, and we do not sell it.

Analytics loads only for visitors whose connection appears to be in the United States or its territories. Before loading it, the site checks which country our hosting provider reports for your connection; the site does not store the result. For everyone else — including visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — Google Analytics is not loaded at all, and no analytics cookies are set.

How long Google Analytics keeps the data depends on the retention setting of our Google Analytics account and on Google's own policies. Google processes it as described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Cookies and local storage

When analytics runs, Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_KZPKMD8DRJ, which distinguish visits and last up to two years. The site sets no other cookies. If you turn analytics off, the site remembers that choice in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.

Turning analytics off

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics never loads. You can also turn it off here; it stops immediately, including in other open tabs of this site, clears the analytics cookies, and is remembered in this browser. Google also offers a browser add-on that turns off Google Analytics on every site.

Hosting

Our hosting provider processes standard request information, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
